darts’ All Aboard project at Rossington’s Pheasant Bank Primary School aims to give children the chance to embark on a journey of discovery and creativity alongside their families, and is part of darts’ Family Learning in Schools programme.
The scheme is funded through the Extended Services initiative, which encourages schools to involve themselves in children’s education beyond the classroom, and has already been a success in several Doncaster schools over the past year.
From September, Pheasant Bank pupils and their significant others will be able to take part in a weekly artist-led creative activity session during school time. darts artist Kate Sully has put together an inclusive programme involving visual arts and music which is designed to encourage family members to work together to discover their potential.
darts values the contribution of teachers to the project and have found that staff from schools which have previously taken part in All Aboard have been extremely supportive and keen to help both children and parents engage fully with school life through creativity.
At Northridge Community School, children and adults were delighted with their joint efforts which resulted in the creation of a mosaic which is now displayed in the school. When asked for their views on the project’s success and impact, families described All Aboard as 'exciting, rewarding, educational, interactive and great for team building'.
The sessions at Pheasant Bank will run for 10 weeks during the autumn, offering families a unique opportunity to get in touch with their creative side together!
